Before we get back to our story, I’ve been seeing your conversations online and it made me realize I need to clarify something.
Some of you took the discussion of AEthelred’s unflattering nickname, and how he caught hell for some things that were out of his control or part of the common culture, and took that to mean that the BHP argues that AEthelred was a good king.
I have been a member since February 2021, and have binged on all episodes since then… But, I was really chuffed when you started mentioning Ramsey Abbey. I live just about 100 yards from what remains of the abbey (an inner gate house, really) and am so mad at the fact that local people know very little about such an important piece of history. Ramsey Abbey became a prominent centre of scholarly learning, particularly of Hebrew scholarship, in the late Middle Ages (something most locals are unaware of).
By the way, you seem to swing between pronunciations when it comes to Ely… it’s supposed to be EE-lee.
