Anyone ever got through these volumes:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_History_of_the_Decline_and_Fall_of_the_Roman_EmpireI tried but it's heavy going, so gave up for now. Might have another crack one day.

I got it with my subscription with Audible. I've made it to about 8 of the 135ish hours of the book. It is very hard going. I like the narrators voice (also listened to Caesar's Commentaries which he also narrated) but the amount of information is so heavy it's hard to take a lot of it all at once. It's a very slow progressing endeavor.

I read this instead:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ancient-Rome-Rise-Fall-Empire/dp/1846072840Found it much easier going and very good. Now I just read I Claudius and Claudius the God. They are fictional but brilliant.
