This reminds me of Michael Crichton's Timeline, which was set in France. The book is okay. The movie is mediocre. I'll be interested to compare Connie Willis' effort.

I do agree with you with Timeline book and movie. She invents a good reason that answers the whole 'how to you make sure you don't change history?' that always gets asked when time travel is mentioned.

This is one of my all-time favorite books.  I like the juxtaposition between the two times, and how the past inadvertently affects the future.

To Say Nothing of the Dog is my personal favourite of Connie's works. I had tears laughing so much.
