We have gone too long without mentioning Bald's Leechbook.  I heard a fascinating story about the Leechbook.  A podcast called RadioLab(which deals with science and its relationship to people and society) November 2 podcast,  had a tale about antibiotics.  The upshot is the authors used one of the recipes from Bald's Leechbook and produced an amazingly powerful antibacterial product that was likely very effective.    As a physician I do not make that statement lightly.  It only goes to prove that our forefathers may not have been as ignorant as we want to believe.  The authors also spend a little time in discussing trying to get into the mind of the anglo saxon author.  I am not ready to use any horse dung yet, but you all might want to listen to this.
