There's a lot of this in History, case in point the Byzantines, a strange psuedo-empire, that potentially starts arbritarily in 3 different places half way through the timeline of another empire and is named after the origional name of its eventual capital which was never used during its time as the capital. The Mycenaean Greeks, a people who refered to themselves as Helens and Io's and had a popular city close to them called Mycenae. We have to organise time periods into eras and categories but, the histories residents of that time very rarely desribed themselves in the terms we do.Interesting about the tudors tho, coz that does seem like something a person would look too to difine their time.
