Being in scotland I can only recommend Hadrians Wall Stirling/Edinburgh Castle, Largs for vikings, New Lanark for the industrial Revolution. I live very near to Glasgow so would happily assist with anything I can across Central/West Scotland

I'd probably add Kilmartin Glen between Lochgilphead and Oban to that list for Scotland's part of the tour - not too far from Glasgow if you have transport.  Further afield if you're up for some real island hopping, there's Callanish stone circle on Lewis,, Skara Brae on Orkney and Jarlshof on Shetland (which has both Pictish wheel houses and a viking village from different periods on the same site).I also think a trip to Culloden battlefield (just outside Inverness) is essential if you're up that way.
