From what I understand, the “proper” thing is to have a teakettle going at a simmer on the back burner essentially all day and then when a cuppa is needed, to empty the kettle, fill it with fresh cold water, and put that on the front burner to bring to a boil and then brew etc, etc. Can anyone shed some light on where this tradition came from and why? Is there something to this or is it just a weird custom?
