When one is as old as I, one has been about a bit. . .There is a negative stereotype of US citizens that they are not aware of the world beyond their borders or, if they are aware, they mistrust it. While there are some who fit that stereotype, I've met countless charming, well-informed, intellectually curious US citizens as well. The world, for better or worse, is becoming smaller all the time and the latter group of US citizens, such as you, give me hope for the future.
The problem with saying that is that you don't tend to meet the Americans who are not aware of anything beyond America.
