You're right, of course, but isn't all history over-simplified most of the time? The Soviets and the US were on the same side during WWII, but that community of purpose faded very quickly, for example. The histories of the world are based on the actions of people. People are complex, ill-informed, often guided by conflicting religions or philosophies, and of varying intelligence. That's why history is so fascinating! Unlike fiction, one rarely can predict what will happen.
