For a collaborative recording like this one, someone sets up the project, then interested volunteers can claim chapters. We have a proof-listening process but our standards are loose -- from experience we know that even poor readers can improve given time and sometimes become very good indeed. We wait for them to ask for help unless they are REALLY hard to understand. It's a delicate situation because it is intimidating and frightening for most people to put their voices out there into the public. Unasked-for criticism makes strong men weep. We do have lots and lots of solo books, so you can pick a good reader and know you'll get the same voice all the way through :)The proof-listener should have caught echo and the whine. Technical problems are fair game for criticism! But our proofers are volunteers too, and sometimes things slip through. I'll have a look and see if we can clean that file up.
