Again, the story told in the podcast isn’t wrong
I’m struggling to find the real complaint here, except that you really wanted a chance to talk at length about the CRA (which, as Tom has pointed out, is a “controversial” opinion. To put it kindly). My point was not to rehash the financial crisis in its entirety, but to give a general overview for the forgetful or completely uninitiated. Thank you for confirming my success in this – you’d be surprised how hard it is to have an off-the-cuff discussion spanning four years of work and a 300 page book.
woefully incomplete and overconfident in its simplistic conclusion.
If you had stopped yelling at your speakers for a moment, you may have noticed that I made no particular conclusions about the financial crisis itself. I relied entirely on the opinion of economists – most of those cited in the work are from the LSE. You’re correct in that I have a fair amount of confidence in their conclusions.
I was quite careful on this. My actual conclusions were on my own research, which was about the relationship between journalism and public knowledge. From this perspective the financial crisis is a backdrop reality and I was curious as to the public discussions around it.
